My USB adapters

Here is my set of self made USB Mini conectors and adapters. I decided to build my own adapters because commercially available adapters are often heavy and large and some of them are hard or impossible to get.

All adapters used available connectors (in case of Mini-USB it is better to buy through hole version, A-OTG is made from the horizontal version of USB-A receptacle, mobile charger used a connector from a broken cheap third party charger), “flying wires” soldering, cutting and soldering of the cover plate, a drop of heat glue, few pieces of kapton tape, and finally a heat shrinkable tube.

Adapters use use 1:1 wiring, only A-OTG connects ID pin to ground.

Power adapters connects ground power line to the connector frame (many USB mini chargers don't connect GND pin at all for some reason).

All Converters

USB Mini-A-OTG plug to USB A receptacle

USB Mini-A-OTG to USB A

Used with standard USB A plug equipped clients (e. g. Bluetooth dongle or Flash) with a host equipped with USB Mini-AB or USB Mini-B OTG (e. g. Zaurus PDA).

USB Mini-B-OTG receptacle to USB B plug

USB Mini-B to USB B

Used with standard USB B receptacle equipped clients with a standard cable terminated by USB Mini-B plug.

USB Mini-B receptacle to mobile phone charging plug

USB Mini-B mobile phone charging

Used for charging of a mobile phone (Sony Ericsson T630) with a USB Mini-B plug equipped charger or with a computer and a standard USB A plug to USB Mini-B plug cable. To be compatible with most USB mini chargers, the adapter connects ground also to the connector frame.

USB OTG charging adapter

USB power adapter detail of USB power adapter

USB OTG explicitly disallows charging of a host capable device using an USB Mini connector. This cable works around this limitation and allows charging of a USB OTG client through an EIAJ-02 RC-5320A charging connector (e. g. Zaurus PDA) without breaking USB client functionality. After adding of the EIAJ-02 RC-5320A receptacle, it is possible to use to branch power in both directions.

Note that it may cause fake loading by itself if the device switches to the host mode, leading to possible confusion of charging or undervoltage protection circuit.

USB power doubler

Used for doubling the current you can get from an USB port. It is also possible to use it for parasite powering on devices that can turn the USB power down.
